The last time I paid a visit to the quiet Portuguese restaurant in 8th Avenue, PJ, I didn’t bring my camera along. It was one of our #teampork outings, see here for more.

Anyway this time round, I decided to ask Pei Yi, Jessica, Ee Leen and Brian to join in for the Pork Burger quest!

Cristang is located in a fairly quiet area called 8th Avenue near Hilton PJ. If you ask me, I actually thought 8th Avenue was rather dead, since many shops are still not opened there yet, the last time I visited the place in June the place looked the same! For an awesome place that houses awesome PORK dishes to be located in 8th Avenue, to be honest if not for Aaron Kee and some blog recommendations, I wouldn’t have known of the place back then.

For specific directions to Cristang, kindly click here!

If you scout around the blogs, they will surely recommend the P1-P7 Pork burgers served here. Of course now they’ve added P8 and P9 to the menu, which are tandoori and korean kimchi flavour. P7, dubbed the Urban Legend is the so called best pork burger there, but it might differ according to personal preference, because that one has petai in it!

Brian and I went for P3, which has bacon, cheese and PORK chili con carne as the fillings. The girls, perhaps abit not so adventurous, chose P2, which has only bacon and cheese.

The P3 Pork Burger. RM23.80

The potato wedges that came with it, are not side dishes added just for decorations. The owner of Cristang actually gave them some great marinating and baking perhaps. They were DELICIOUS! Perfect add-on to the mouth watering burgers I would say.

Fresh Lemonade. RM6.80

I was being generous today, so I decided to order something different. I saw that they serve lemonade on the menu, hence decided to give it a try. This lemonade, WOW! Definitely not your ordinary lemonade which tasted like soft drink mixed with lemon. The lemonade here is so KAO, I actually love it. Though Brian said it tasted like ENO, after feeling ‘conned’ into ordering it, since he never saw the price.

Perhaps only one thing I wish to clarify in this blog post, if you happen to stumble upon this post seeking information about Cristang, the 20% discount every wednesday on all Pork Burgers have been discontinued!! The blog posts that show up on your google search probably didn’t update that piece of information.

Discount or not, I believe Cristang pork burgers are worth giving a try, if you’re a pork lover like me.

Man, they should pay me for this! Haha!

Recently, if you guys have been following my Twitter, or had known me personally would have been aware that I was away for a 3 days 2 nights camp in El Sanctuary, Alor Gajah.

While the camp was a successful one with many memories well cherished and kept for a lifetime, the time spent in Malacca eating especially was an exceptional experience. The theme for our camp was Go The Distance, and boy oh boy, we definitely went the distance in eating. HAHA!

Our main highlights were of course the famous Chicken Rice Balls, which were only found in Malacca. Not to mention the infamous Satay Babi, or Pork Satay. While Satay Celup was the other main attraction, sadly we didn’t had the opportunity to try it out (oh well, that leaves an excuse for another trip down south!). We also had the opportunity to try out the Durian Cendol at Tan Kim Hock, which of course didn’t come cheap at all. >.<

On Saturday itself, we devoted the whole day to travel around Malacca. Of which we did paid a visit to Christ Church Malacca, where the concentration of tourists were, and also to the famous Fort A Famosa, but that’s a story for another day.

We visited Heng Hainanese Chicken Rice Ball for lunch, which apparently according to Ding Yan, was one of the best chicken rice balls around town. Forgot where it was as I wasn’t the driver!

Tasty Chicken Rice Balls.

They were actually quite small though, we could easily stuff one whole ball into our mouths, not to mention there was a little mutual competition going on at my table to see who can eat the most balls!

Vegetable dish.

Wasn’t too fancy about this, those who know me would know why haha! There weren’t any complaints regarding it anyway.

Yummy Steam Chicken.

The steam chicken was great, juicy and tender! Though somehow I still prefer the steam chickens I had in Kee Kee Bentong, but hey no complaints, Kee Kee Bentong’s back in Kelana Jaya and I was in Malacca!

Mouth-Watering Roast Chicken.

I loved the roast chicken!! Many times I would prefer the steam chicken over the roasted ones, but not on Saturday. The roast chicken over at Heng was surprisingly delicious, it had no burnt taste and whatsoever. It was kinda roasted to perfection that sorta feeling, you know what I’m saying? This dish, a must have.

We also ordered the Black Beans Soup, which was recommended by Heng. It’s not cheap, RM3 per bowl. I can’t take beans, so I never touched my soup, or rather, it was taken back. Hopefully it got deducted out of the bill!

I wrote on my Twitter, Saturday was Get Fat Day. We were eating so much so that we didn’t have enough time to digest!! We hit the Pork Satay right after a short walk over at Dataran Pahlawan Megamall. I actually can’t recall what was the name of the shop we had our pork satays but it was pork, and thats what matters.

Infamous PORK satay.

While it tasted heavenly, I gotta say though, they were actually quite small as compared to normal chicken satays we have around, all the more so if compared to Kajang satays which were generally bigger. Nevertheless, it was pork and we were deeply satisfied, despite just having some heavy lunch there. To non-pork lovers, HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE PORK?!

We decided to head back to El Sanctuary and resume our food expedition the next day, since it was nearing dinner time at El Sanctuary by then. Did I mention Saturday was Get Fat Day? Back at El Sanctuary, they prepared Spaghetti for dinner. Bliss!

After checking out on Sunday, we head back to Malacca town, this time to try out the durian cendol. We dropped by Tan Kim Hock for the said item. RM5 per bowl *whistles*, not cheap not cheap!! Definitely once in a lifetime thing if you ask me.

Overpriced Durian Cendol.

Nothing too special about it, only that they added durian paste on top of the ice shavings, with added sea coconut of course. The rest of the ingredients are still pretty much the same, cendol and red beans. Unnecessary costs were perhaps spent on that special orange holders that came along with it.

We passed by this stall by the road side which was selling Coconut Milk Shakes with lines that might take forever to shorten, didn’t decide to stop for it, but kinda regretting it now since I heard from another friend after I came back to Subang, that it was actually pretty famous there!

Instead, we stopped by this fruit stall which was located beside the place where the state government might wanna develop it into some kind of Malacca Gold Coast thing. DURIAN FEAST! No, they are not Malaccan food, but hey we’re Malaysians, who doesn’t like durians?!

That concludes our Malaccan food expedition, coupled up with breakfast, lunch and dinner served over at El Sanctuary, and dinner over at Seremban on Sunday night, all campers agreed we couldn’t stop eating. Best part of the camp was that, it was actually filled with both physical and spiritual food!

The only regrets of the trip were probably that we never got to taste Satay Celup and that Coconut Milk Shake thing, but hey Malacca isn’t very far away!

Well, I definitely had fun. Now I better think of dieting again.

Alright, finally I can kick Nicholas’ post on the Curry Laksa. Tehee! I have a sweet tooth. I love desserts but at the same time I try to look out for my health (which has been failing lols). My first taste of Ammie’s lemon sorbet was magical. Then onwards, I learned how to make sorbet (although not as good as the commercial ones) for my own pleasure . I haven’t had the time to experiment much since I left for Australia. The only sorbet I made was watermelon. It tasted good, especially in autumn. Ha ha.

So before you sound the BORING alarm, I better get on with what I want to yak about today. Been trying to spot tasty Australian treats so that I can tempt my friends back in Malaysia, who have been tempting me with Malaysian food. Have been looking at the freeze section at the nearest “grocery store”. Looked through various delicious ice creams and spotted a different kind. Sorbet! My favourite! (I guess?)

I plucked the mango sorbet outta the fridge without even considering the berry flavoured one. Instincts? heh. Anyhow, the sorbet costs $7 AUD! Woot! It has been sitting in the freezer for quite sometime. I only decided to open it today – after having some photoshoot sessions with it. Nobody wants to be my model so I guess I have to have inanimate objects to be my models.. aw.. Woot, it was the best Mango Sorbet I have ever tasted! I hope they didn’t add excessive amounts of chemicals though.. hahaha! (since nothing natural is often that good!).. oh I did send an email to Weis to give them a thumbs up.. Let’s just see what they reply…

Guess this is one of the days where I am sugar high and posting on the blog.. lol

I believe this particular coffee shop looks familiar to most of you, thats assuming majority of you readers are from USJ. Anyway, even if you’re not, my fellow author, Christopher has blogged about this place before, which was about his Char Siew Rice! Let me refresh your memory.

I so happened to decide to have my breakfast with my parents at this coffee shop on a Sunday morning after church, after hearing much about the curry laksa at the place.

To illustrate its popularity, when I first stepped into the coffee shop, I could actually spot at least a bowl of curry laksa on every table. So I sat down with the parents, and ordered a bowl of curry laksa, which cost only RM4.50. Thats the price for the ‘small’ portion though, the ‘big’ one cost around RM5?

Anyway, I was taken aback by the portion.

It was huge. Then again, the soup seems to be the one filling up the bowl rather than the noodles!

No complains for the laksa though, it was tasty and the soup makes you wanting for more! (MSG?) The chicken that came along with it were tender and blended well with the curry. Of course there was a mini plate of sambal for you spicy lovers if you wish to add some more flavour into it!

You can also choose the noodles of your preference to go with the soup, I had mee hoon + kuey teow! I know its a weird combo, but I love the fact the mee hoon absorbs the curry to make it more flavourful and at the same time I like kuey teow, so why not have the best of both worlds? Try it, you might end up liking it too!

So for you USJ peeps, if you’re around the corner, drop by and give the curry laksa a try! Its easily noticeable in the coffee shop itself.

Where’s Restoran MeiSek again? It’s along USJ 14/1K.

During the 3rd day of Chinese New Year (年初三), my family and I were hungry after a long day of visitings, so happened we were around the area of SS2, we decided to give this glamourously looking chinese restaurant a try.

If you’re wondering where it is, its located beside Prince Cafe, the row behind Murni SS2. You couldn’t possibly miss it, especially during nightfall, considering the fact its so brightly litted up.

The ambience of the area was considerably okay, it kinda gives a very China-ish feel, probably due to the red long chinese wordings backdrop. Surroundings aside, the menu is always the main point!

One glance at the menu, the prices are going to tell you they aren’t cheap, lol. BUT its not overly expensive as well. Seeing as to how much investment they dumped into decorating the interior, the prices of the food are always going to be the place they recover their investments!

My Pork Dumpling Ramen! For starters, the ramen was really smooth, its soft and tender without being too thick, which at the same time reminds me of the ramen in Dragon-i. The soup didn’t disappoint as well! The pork dumplings were awesome, I don’t know about you, but being a fan of PORK, anything pork-ish tastes good. XD

If I didn’t remember wrongly, my bowl of Pork Dumpling Ramen cost RM8.90.

My brother’s Seafood Sichuan Ramen! At first glance, you would notice a healthy amount of seafood given, which is great! (Look at the size of the prawn!) I didn’t take any of it though, but by judging from my brother’s expression throughout the meal, I know that dish didn’t disappoint him one bit. He was the last to finish up everything anyway, talk about savouring your food slowly. XD

That much of seafood sure didn’t come cheap, if I wasn’t wrong, it cost RM14.80.

Going out with the family for dinner, is awesome. There will always be side orders! XD The much popular Siu Long Pao (小龙包), which in my opinion, rivals the ones at Dragon-i, but of course in terms of overall, I still very much prefer Dragon-i’s Siu Long Pao.

Nothing much to say about the dish, except for the fact that it wasn’t dry, the tasty soup contained inside the Pao was very much delicious! RM8 for the side order.

I gave my experience at One Noodle SS2 a 7/10!

The One Noodle

The first and last time I would ever step foot into Gasoline! Just note that I am writing my experience based on the Gasoline chain I visited in Sunway Pyramid! Was there for a friends birthday celebration (I’m not putting any blame or malice on the organiser). From the outside, the joint looks pretty decent. It had a nice theme and looks like it could offer something good for the buck. Credit goes to the owner of the chain for that.

Let’s get straight to the point. The service at Gasoline (the Sunway Pyramid branch for that matter) really sucks. It is as though you have to beg them for service. Maybe they are understaffed or what but that’s not an excuse for the money customers are paying! I don’t think I have much to complain about the food though (I had a cheesebake seafood rice). But the portion was small. I guess most of the money went into purchasing the seafood.

Right, I guess I can say that the only thing that turned me off was the POOR service! Figuratively speaking, you have to get your own fork and spoons, bowls and CONSTANTLY remind the waiters for your drinks! WHATS UP WITH THAT! I give my experience a 1/5. K THX BYE.

So, you’ve decided to visit the Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang for certain reasons – to offer prayers, to buy “branded” goods for cheap, to buy “fake feces” or just to have a look see. Parking at the temple is RM2 for the whole day, if you need to know. At the bottom of the temple are shop houses, houses and even a market! Well, people can choose to live near the temple can’t they? Shop houses pish, houses posh. You might only be interested to have a look at the market? Why? It is “rumoured” to have one of the best and cheapest Assam Laksa you can ever find!

For RM 2.70 (I hope I remembered it correctly) a bowl, you get a generous amount of noodles and (smashed?) sardine. The soup taste just nice. Not too hot and not too bland. I have to say this is the first time I could eat a bowl of Assam Laksa without opening the “floodgates”. Oh wait, perhaps I developed a resistance to spicy food over the years! The serving is also just nice. However, hygiene is questionable – as usual. But as the saying goes, the dirties of places serves the best food (I don’t hold responsibility for this!). Give it a 3/5.

Yeah, Snowflake! It’s popularity has even got people to wait like “vultures” just to secure a table. Heck, they even managed to open a branch at The Pavilion, KL! And recently, they have introduced new flavours to their menu too! But I was told that they are not worth the money. Ha ha . So why does a popular brand need “advertisement” from bloggers/websites i.e. Coffeestops!? This time, it is not about how tasty or satisfying the desserts are, but rather how Snowflake has been a letdown! Oh, the above is something you don’t see frequently Give it a try!

Notice something different? What happened to the bowls? They substituted it with Styrofoam! WHAT!!?!? I knew they were using Styrofoam bowls at The Pavilion but that did not concern me as I the probability of me enjoying Snowflake there is 0.01%. I was hopeful that they did not do the same at the SS15 branch but I was wrong. Gone are the ceramic bowls, replaced with the synthetic ones which gives you a ‘funny’ feeling when you are at the bottom. Try it Scrape the bottom of your bowl hard!

Dear Snowflake, please bring back the ceramic bowls! It adds prestige to your desserts! Now, it just looks like something you can buy from the roadside cendol stall!

I hope you don’t decide to replace the metal spoons with plastic ones too!!!!

Looking for something special? If you so happen to be in Penang, make your way to Kafe Heng Huat along Lorong Selamat! Just make sure you are not a health freak or too particular about hygiene. Health freaks can order a plate of spring onions. Ha ha Do note that the roads in Penang are fantastic. Fantastic in the sense that you might be so close to your destination but you are helpless because you have no idea where the one-way roads would lead you to! It will be great help if you had a local with you or travel by foot.

You might find other interesting food to try along Lorong Selamat too. You will find rojak, noodles and ABC. As I see it, the structures along Lorong Selamat are residential ones. They have been converted to house business. Don’t tell me it is a common sight. I’m telling you that they are residential houses converted into shoplots! Ha ha!

I am not sure whether the two ladies are the owners of Kafe Heng Huat or just “borrowing” the space to earn a living. But it doesn’t matter anyhow. We still get to eat good Char Kuey Teow. I wonder why one of the ladies kept looking at the camera. Excuse me, I’m trying to get your extra publicity! I am not here to bust your ass for health violations (if any)!

To cook, they use charcoal. It is rumored to give a better aroma and taste. It has to be the same reason why you barbecue your chicken wings with charcoal, right?

What you should know is that a plate of Char Kuey Teow at Kafe Heng Huat is Rm 6.50 – and that’s with a good reason. You get tasty and succulent prawns! The Char Kuey Teow above costs RM 8.50 because we “KA HA” (added prawns). Don’t argue with me whether it should be GA HA or KA HA. Thanks From the picture, you can see just how big the prawns are! But wait! Maybe it is an optical illusion! Perhaps they served a smaller portion of kuey teow? I would like to believe they gave super duper big prawns You can believe what you want! he he.

Here is a closer look at the char kuey teow. Delicious! Oh yes, they seem to have gotten the texture and taste just right too! Years of cooking the same dish over and over again has paid off! Ha ha! I give it a 3/5. If only it wasn’t so expensive, I might have it everyday .

Restoran Uncle Seng serves fresh and home made wan ton noodles for anyone that finds it at SS15. It is located along the same row of shops as the shop that sells the (famous) pork noodles. If you are still clueless, just do a google search on Restoran Uncle Seng! I am sure its home made wan ton noodles has made it to the internet! Yeah, you might want to look out for the signboard as well. It is not obscure Another word of caution, do plan your trip there (timing) or you might end up standing in line for a table!

I was made known that the noodles used are similar to those in Tangkak, Johore. Only difference I noticed is that it is thicker than its cousin. Another glaring difference is the absence of the black sauce (I have no idea what you call it, if I had to guess, oyster sauce?). Perhaps it is healthier! Fret not, it is still tasty and satisfying! Mmm, just look at the barbecued pork… there goes your health plan

Ordering at Restoran Uncle Seng is also made easy. Easy on you and also the person taking the orders. Instead of having the poor guy remember what you would like to have, all you need is to fill up a list. Hey, presto! It is as simple as that! Food is served quickly as well. You don’t have to wait till your stomach gives up on you to have your meal. I had a barley with lemonade as drink. Not bad. (Woot, that was random)

Even if you are a fussy eater, Uncle Seng would not let you down! Besides having the (ever famous) barbecued pork, those who would, can opt for healthier choices like chicken or mushroom. However, some (tasty) variations have been removed from the menu. For curry fans, it is bad new for you! The curry chicken has been removed from the menu! :]

I had a big plate of barbecued pork wan ton noodles for RM5.10. The smaller plate costs slightly cheaper. I give it a 3/5.
