Updates from the Sunshine State
Down Under — By Christopher on May 31, 2010 at 11:14 PMA few updates from me. Wonder how is everyone doing? Wonder whether Sarven will transfer to an Australian University soon? Ha ha. Whatever you guys are up to, whether on the brink of entering the working world, or still halfway through your degree (like I am), hope you are all doing well and still enjoying life~ Kok Kuan, when you have a major headache with your assignment, I’m gonna ask you to release stress in toilet! See you de-stress or not!
Man, my Malay is slowly going down the drain..

The most stressful week (or rather day) of my 2nd year 2nd semester has gone. Finally I can catch some sleep. What’s left to do are a few more reports and I can concentrate on the final exams. Speaking of final exams, I have only 3, since one of my units are purely projects. That subject is a killer. Really. I’m taking the continuation of it next semester. Hope I’ll be better equipped then. My team’s 31 and the top picture is our product, without the antenna. Oops, what did we built? We built a device that picks up Morse Code from low powered transmitters, and outputs decoded message and the bearing. Sounds tough? You bet your ass.
I am just glad that we submitted our product 1 minute before the due time.

Soldering “through-hole” components are for kids
Have you tried soldering SMD (surface mounted devices)? You have to peer through a microscope and use a special solder! Glad I did learn a skill out of this course (it’ll definitely help me a long way). Also, I managed to teach myself Solid Edge. Can’t say I am extremely good at it, but at least I could design my team’s product casing! Have also learned a lot of things that can’t be taught in textbooks. A really valuable experience. But at what price? Lack of sleep and possibly a not perfect CGPA. But I guess life’s not about getting perfect scores or marks. It’s about doing your best and grabbing every opportunity you have…
( am I psyching myself? hahaahhaha)

Australia’s pretty cool. In the sense that you can see many whacky stuff. Saw college kids running around in costumes, getting their body painted and crap. They even had lifts decorated (it was a project for one unit I think). They were encouraging the use of stairs. They placed posters that goes like “elevators are unhealthy”. Guess they decorated the lifts to show how wimpy you are when you use them.. ha ha.. I’m using elevator Barbie.. yeah!!!

Sometimes in life, you have to make a choice. Choosing one will affect the other and vice versa. That happened to be last Friday. The basketball captain decided to send only one team for the NCG. A total of 10 players ( There are about 13 applicants)… so they had another selection then. I had to choose between my project and that chance to play basketball. I decided not to go for the selection and wished them the best. So yeah, won’t be going to Sydney this Winter.. cheers!

Eh, I dont know why now only I thought of this.
Going in an ‘elevator Ken’, it’s a compliment right?
Wait,

Then ‘elevator ken’ for what?
To show….that you shouldn’t be in it cos the perfect man didn’t exist anyway? Muahahahahaha. I amuse myself.
