Nambawan, Restaurant & Cafe
CoffeeTaste — By Nicholas on October 5, 2009 at 10:44 PMBeing pork lovers, Ying Wei and I have been searching high and low for places which serves great pork dishes. Sourcing from various blogs and contacts, we finally landed ourselves in Nambawan Restaurant, which is situated in Old Klang Road (more like before it), after having introduced to by a friend, Darren Here.
[THIS IS A STRICTLY NON-HALAL POST]

Well, it was also because of our fellow friend, Melody’s birthday we decided to visit the place, but I’ll blog about that in another post. To be honest, the place isn’t quite an easy spot to locate especially for us, who lives in Subang.
It’s located off the North Pantai Expressway (NPE). Hmm, I will reveal more on the directions later. Our main objective of the day, was of course PORK. Other than celebrating Melody’s birthday lol. Even as we indulged in the menu, we could feel it salivating our taste buds!

According to Darren, the hot chocolate was one of the better drinks around, apart from the Lemonade, which was equally good. Costing RM2.50 per cup, I would say it was a fair deal, but the only down side to it was, my hot chocolate… wasn’t exactly hot. When it arrived, it was already halfway towards being cold chocolate instead.
Then again, I didn’t make a fuss out of it, as I was busy mingling around rather than creating a scene over a cup of chocolate. lol. So make sure you guys request for a real HOT chocolate if you ever experience the same situation.

This is your normal pork chop. The Crump Pork Chop, priced at RM12.90 was good, well fried and it goes well with the sauce. However, in my opinion, its abit too common and I wouldn’t recommend this though it was noted as one of their specialty in the menu. Tasted great, no doubt.

The Roasted Pork Belly, at RM12.90 is a great deal! Ying Wei ordered this, and I wouldn’t deny, it looked appetizing, though the picture might not be portraying the same feeling. The fats of the belly was well roasted, and according to him, it was great in all ways, or rather, SINFUL. Here’s a alternate view to it, set to salivate your taste buds!
Apparently, the dish is only available on weekends, I can’t confirm the validity of it though. I would still definitely recommend this! Pork lovers, you would know the difference when you taste it. =)

This was what I ordered. Equally awesome, the Stone Charboiled Pork Belly, priced slightly expensive at RM13.90 was heavenly. Considering it was charboiled, its meat was much tender as compared to its roasted counterpart. Absolutely boneless, the small looking portion can actually stuff your tummy. It’s compact with meat and the fats that didn’t disappoint! Two thumbs up!
The potatoes that came with it weren’t exactly bad either, it was soft, and I love potatoes when they are soft! Although the apple gel that came with it, which you were suppose to go with the meat tasted abit weird to me. The others said it was fine, so I guess it was a case of personal preference.

Darren’s BBQ Pork Ribs, which was the most expensive of the lot, priced at RM25.80 was of course, in our opinion the best tasting pork dish of the night. Very well marinated with the BBQ sauce along with the proper grilling temperature, its juice was still much intact. Given a small bite of it from Darren, I think I almost couldn’t contain the foogasm that exploded in my mouth. Definitely A++!
Apparently there is another similar shop serving great pork dishes in Sunway Mentari. If I’m not wrong, its called BellyGood. We had visited the place once, but only to be turned off by the prices they charged at the place. It ain’t cheap, I tell ya. ;( And to top it all up, I had done some research on the net, many prefered Nambawan over BellyGood too!
Of course there were others who ordered lamb, but I didn’t caught a picture of it, but worry not, our tour guide, Darren, gave his assurance that the beef and lamb dishes are quite well done here too, so don’t forget to give them a try and tell us how it is for you!
Ok so now here’s the difficult part, the place isn’t exactly out in the open. And I couldn’t think of any ways to access the place without using the NPE, well you could use the Federal Highway and cut across Assunta Hospital to get to the place but that would really take a long time.
