My SAC Experience

At the end of the day, its the experience that counts, and all the joy that came with it.

It has been a wonderful year albeit ups and downs here and there BUT I just want to say, I enjoy working with you guys. For a bunch of us who were new to each other initially (at least for some of us), I can say we’d come a long way, and the SAC traditional saying was proven once again – we’ve become a family! =)

At least that was what I felt. Heh.

I don’t deny my acceptance into the SAC board (and being made Head of Photography Dept) was questioned at the early days, since I guess everyone knew I was the President’s boyfriend, despite having adequate photography knowledge from the Sunway ECHO Editorial Board the previous year. Well, I sure hope I have managed to silence my critiques with the amount of effort and commitment I have shown for the year. =)

Now that it’s all over. To be honest, I actually miss those days. Alright then, let’s just have a recap for the year, some of which I think I would cherish for the rest of my lives.

Ahh, the SAC Charity Drive, which took place on the 17th of Feb – 20th of Feb. The first event on the calendar, and I was elected as the Assistant Organising Chairman (AOC) along with Kar Tung to Erh Jhen, who was the OC. Being the 1st event in line, I don’t deny some of us were blur to how things work in SAC, considering we were all new members, but I guess the brainstormings with Jhen and Kar Tung paid off.

Our food carnival, which sold mainly J.Co Donuts and Dominoes Pizzas and other miscellaneous stuffs like the cotton candies and lollipops was nothing but a success! We even surpassed the previous board’s total receipts by a few hundred (All proceeds go to Trinity Home)! A pat on the back to ourselves indeed. =)

It was some really quality time with all the members to mingle around and fit in, winning customers in our every own possible ways, at times some funny moments (eg. Khaled) were all quite the memorable to me.

Being the OC and the AOC ain’t something light though, we have to be responsible for every single outcome, especially things to do with money. I thank God that there weren’t any discrepancies so we came clean with the event!

The ACCA Social Gathering, held on the 25th of March. Our annual event at the SAC, fully funded by Mr. Teo Ee Sing himself, hence its free for all CAT/ACCA students to come together and take their minds off studies for the day.

Well, the preparations for the event weren’t all sweet and nice, it was all sweat and blood I tell you! It may look like we’re one bunch of crazy people on the outside, but the effort and late nights to make it great for you people were beyond comprehension. BUT we really did had fun in the process =)

Haha, I remember all the rehearsal sessions for our play, the stupid stuffs we did, the bloopers, the NG scenes, classic. The dance practice was a real funny experience, seeing the fact NONE of us knew how to dance. Okay lah, David Yeap had background in it, and I think Amanda too. So yea you could imagine all the crabs trying to dance like pros. LOL!

Anyway back to Social Gathering, it was a great night people. “You guys, are the best.” Khaled’s favourite quote to us.

We had a fair share of compliments and critiques about our play, but well who said satisfying customer needs was easy? xD I’m just proud to say that, we really did tried out best to ensure everything was entertaining. Except for the stupid sound system which decided to die on the night itself.

For those of you who are still interested to watch our play, or at least wanna remember what was our story. Click here!

Sad to say, it was also during this period, some of the members who couldn’t give their commitment decided to leave the board, leaving us at one time really shorthanded, but I guess we couldn’t blame it on one party, hence tactfulness is an important aspect, we say the wrong things we suffer the consequences, eh?

But well, we persevered! and for those who lasted the whole year, I’m glad to say we aren’t quitters but winners in all aspects! =D

Time was really not on our side at that point of time, soon after Social Gathering ended, immediately we had to make preparations for the ACCA Sports Day, which was held on the 19th of April. Infact, I think preparations for it already begun while we were still preparing for Social Gathering! Talk about the ability to multitask!

No I’m not putting up the picture of Wai Kidd with his sexy legs, incase any of you members are asking. LOL! Its painful enough to my eyes on my laptop, let alone it being on my website HAHA!

I was placed in charged of the basketball event. Phew, it was stressful I tell you, after hearing all the stories about fights breaking out the previous year, I was pressured to ensure the same thing don’t occur again this year. With tighter rules and regulations, and better referees, both my referees Alvin and Tian Long were a great help to ensure peace! Though I err.. had much complaints about the other one, but well thank God peace was maintained!

Well, one match almost ended ugly. It was a real intensed match, both sides deserved to win, but I guess sometimes a fair bit of luck wouldn’t do justice to one party. I did managed to stop both sides going at each others’ necks, so yea that was my only dramatic, more like heroic moment of the day.

There were also other games like futsal, badminton, frisbee, and the all time favourite tag-of-war! The only setback of the year was we had really little female participation, so we were forced to cancel off most female events due to some really poor registry.

After Sports Day, we finally had a long breather. Thats because our next event, which was the CAT/ACCA Prom Night was in another 3 months time! Well then again, its not like we were totally free. Being also students, I think its understood our finals were at our throat. T_T

A big scale event like the CAT/ACC Prom Night, was our highlight of the year, held on the 17th of July. Well, we used to do camps, if some of you might remember in the previous years, it was always the ACCA Camp. We decided to do away with camp this year, and since everyone has been demanding for a prom since God knows when, the SAC Board of 2009 was ready to take up the challenge.

Mr. Teo was being really skeptical about our efforts initially, and many times he had asked us to revert to camp, since he wasn’t convinced his students will pay to go to prom. Oh how he was so wrong! XD With the initial target set at 300 students for us, we pushed our target to 500, and guess what we exceeded it to 600!

A real success indeed, despite being the first time we had organised a prom event. I’m just proud to be a part of history! XD We actually managed to get JJ of Hits.FM and Rina of 8TV Quickie to be our hosts, and also some awesome performances from Silent Scream and Bus Company.

Of course the part of getting sponsorships was a pain, considering it was a period of recession and economic downturn, asking companies to fork out money is a very stressful factor indeed. I remember Reb used to look tired and stressed day in day out, worrying about whether or not we have enough cash, at times I was worried she would suffer a mental breakdown! =d but I guess, thank God for BDO, if not we would have been finished. Lol.

It was really a day to see everyone in suits, dresses, gowns rather than the usual shirt and jeans. Not to forget some of our members became so stunningly pretty I almost couldn’t recognise them! Its like Taylor Swift in her You Belong with Me Music Video. Seriously man.

We do have conflicts and disagreements, no doubt, but I’m happy that we didn’t let all these conflicts and disagreements stop us all from being friends. At the end of the day, it IS really the experience that counts. I’m honestly happy to enjoy each and every of your company. =D The only funny thing was, only after breaking up with Reb, I got closer to most of you people, lol.

After prom, in which we achieve a huge success, and when we thought all is done for the year. We had the 19th CAT/ACCA Graduation Ceremony dumped on our shoulders! It was recently held on the 3rd of October. Well, it used to be fully under the Admin people, with SAC providing support in terms of manpower. This semester, it was placed fully under SAC and will be a SAC event every semester.

To be honest, our board was the first to break out of the usual traditions. 1st prom event, checked and successful! 1st graduation ceremony? Checked and successful as well! I guess we are really one bunch of elites in our own ways. I’m proud of you guys, my fellow SAC members.

With all the compliments from the lecturers, and a huge smile on Ms. Margaret’s face at the end of the day, despite some minor faulties, let’s give ourselves a pat on the back, people!

We have all come a long way, guys. I will miss the times I spent with you people, every single minute of it. With the new board now elected, I guess we have unofficially retired from our duties. Its true that you won’t miss what you’ve lost, now that we won’t have much opportunity to work with each other in the future, I kinda miss the times we enjoy during social gathering auditions, rehearsals, weekly meetings where Siang would entertain us week in week out, etc.

I guess I should thank God for you guys instead. I had a wonderful year in ECHO, and was thinking of continuing for the 2nd year if not for the then girlfriend, Reb who asked me to help her in the board, I would not have signed up for SAC at all, and I wouldn’t have meet you wonderful people. Sometimes, its amazing how things can turn out in life. Who knows what would have happened if I remained in ECHO. Heh, God knows.

So yea, thank you guys for the experience. We have grown to be a family, I know you guys will be there whenever I need a company. Haha.

Siang, I will miss you the most I guess, you and your loud personality, never fail to enlighten the atmosphere! and the rest of you guys, I wish to apologise if in any ways I had offended you people, and I hope my presence has been a cheerful sight, if not a blessing to every one of you! =)

So yea, all the best in your future undertakings, people!
