Welcome to My Life! [Epi. 3]
CoffeeSnoops — By Nicholas on August 20, 2009 at 1:18 AMPerhaps every good things have to come to an end, huh? Like how I ended the previous episode, my life has reached its peak and now its onto the downstream.
Okay maybe not entirely downstream, but I can say 2008 is the start of many problems that till today, I find it a mammoth task to resolve. Can’t say I didn’t contribute partly to it, though.
Ahh, the life of the dreaded ACCA level began. I was in for a culture shock though, it was obviously the case when you have not been failing your progress tests, and then suddenly you’re slapped with a 30% in the Corporate & Business Law paper. Not to mention the constant failure in the Performance Management paper too. Life hasn’t been easy as I started out slow to adapt to the competitive environment in the Fundamentals level.

HO HO! No that wouldn’t stop me from enjoying my University years. Uh-uh, no way. I’m kinda the last minute pusher, and I feel kinda guilty for that too often a times, well we’ll get to that later. Anyway, I managed to get into the College Editorial Board, or more commonly known as ECHO around Sunway University College.

The ECHO Board of 2008 was nothing but pure fun. I mean, I thank God for putting me in an awesome board, as some of you may know, I went for interviews to join Student Council in my CAT year and I kinda didn’t make it. I decided to try out for the editorial board this time round for the photographer position since I had my trusty D40 with me, and I was successful!
Our meetings were like, I wanna quote my fellow colleague here, “like an asylum”. Mainly because meetings were always filled with laughters passerbys might think we were nuts! Haha! Well all these couldn’t be achieved without a lame advisor eh? Our advisor, Mr. Terence is a great man altogether, and is also naturally lame! Haha! His lameness is beyond comprehension sometimes you just feel like crashing your head through the wall for falling for one of his jokes again! Best part, he’s a youth pastor at his church. LOL!
I kinda needed the experience anyway. For my photoshooting experience I meant. I have been learning various stuffs about DSLR from both Chris and Ying Wei before this, and much practices and trial and errors on my own, I guess I managed to impress my advisor during the interviews. =DD
ECHO was part of the Student Leaders pyramid and so we were required to assist in various events, mainly organised by the Student Council. Obviously we will be fulfilling the reporting capacity, and I will be out on field capturing memorable moments! I often also self-invite myself to various Sunway ACCA Club (SAC) events as the ECHO photographer, don’t ask me how I did that, partly because I’m an ACCA student myself so admission to their events were never difficult, haha!
The most prominent event we were involved with for the year was of course, the Amazing G-Race. The year before, I was there as a participant, then I was part of the organisers!

Do you recognise anybody from that picture? Don’t say the ACCA seniors lahh, I meant the three ladies in the middle! Still don’t ring any bells? Did you watched the Amazing Race Asia Season 2? Yeap, they were Pamela, Vanessa and Sawaka (from Team Japan) from that season. Pamela and Vanessa were the season’s 1st Runner-up! If you didn’t already know, they’re sisters by the way.

Vanessa & Pamela Chong.
To be honest, that was my first time meeting celebrities. So yea, I was obviously abit panicky at first! Haha! I couldn’t help but laugh at myself now. I was lucky as I was one of the first to speak with them, since I was representing the college press, along with Jaqueline, Sean and Su-Lynn.
Pamela and Vanessa were much prettier in person than that when I saw them on the television! So yea, that kinda explains why I was panicky too. Pretty girls mah!!! XD We managed to invite them over to flag off the Amazing G-Race, which also include a pre-race prep talk! Well that sure have gotten the participants’ spirits rising.
We managed to interview them too after the flag-off, which only meant more picture opportunities for me! Whee~ now I didn’t wanna sound like a stalker, but that’s my job okay. Dang. -.-”

I was a happy guy. *blinks innocently* =DDD
I remember I was busy driving the crew around for reports here and there on that day itself. No doubt it was a tiring day, but mannn it was an experience worth collecting! Not to mention the pain of editing over 500 pictures that night. I almost died.
We also conducted a brief flash mob, on the launch of our online portal, ECHOnline! Don’t ask me what happened to it now, the current board apparently didn’t continue with it.
Being Asians, I guess its hard to get the people to get involved with it, but lucky us a few sporting individuals joined in the fun! So our flash mob wasn’t a complete flop! =D
Well of course we were involved in many more events, like the Sunway Sports Carnival, International Students Carnival, helping out with The Apprentice Challenge and what not, there were times I felt being exploited since I wasn’t being paid or anything, then again I had my wonderful colleagues, especially Jaqueline, whom I often enjoy the partnership with, with me all the time, it was all very much worth it and to be honest, I miss ECHO field works now!

Chinese New Year was pretty early in 2008, if I didn’t remembered wrongly.
I had a CNY gathering at my house, for both the high school mates and the current ACCA bunch. There was awkwardness in the air, but soon everyone began to open up, it was partay time!

I think the ACCA bunch were gambling in the dining hall when we took the group picture. Haha! Ironically, my high school bunch were all angels, we they don’t gamble, so we were just hanging around to joke, talk crap, and what not. =D
Not to forget the constant ‘camwhoring’ around the house. lolwut!
————————————————————————————————————————————-
Then I remembered it was my 19th birthday.
These two buddies of mine gatecrashed my house to hand me a birthday present. Honestly, I never received any presents via gatecrashing, so that was my first and yea I was really surprised. Didn’t saw that coming, haha! So yea, thank you both.

Only to find it staring back at my face, “You Suck” =_____= meh orhs.

I guess everyone knows (well they should) what happened on the 8th of March, 2008. Well if you hadn’t been paying attention to our country already, its high time you begin now. Even if you don’t bother whats going on with the political parties, its important to know ur country’s political situation!
Anyway, Hannah Yeoh was campaigning around Subang Jaya practically at that time, since she was representing DAP in wrestling the Subang Jaya Assemblyman seat from Barisan National. There was once, okay maybe twice, DAP held a ‘ceramah’ over at the USJ 12 field. Thus, Pei Yi, Ying Wei and I decided to attend to get a first hand feel on whats it like to listen in on these ceramahs.

Needless to say, it was influential. Then again, thats not the point. What they spoke was with substance and with truth! I guess that can be justified by the overwhelming support from people all over USJ. There were easily over thousands of people that night, I’m serious! Big shots from DAP and PKR were also present that night, them like Lim Kit Siang, Gobind Singh, Teng Chang Khim, etc.
No doubt, the people made a choice, and till today Hannah Yeoh is still performing her duties to her very best! She truly deserves my respect, honestly.
She kinda lives across the field from my house though. XD

Then, somewhere during the month of April, Planetshakers came to town! =DDD So, along with the rest of the Youth Fellowship (now known as IMPACT) of my church, we headed over to Sunway University College, where the concert was held in the Multi-Purpose Hall.
Having appointed ourselves as photographers, Chris and I ventured to different areas of the MPH to find the perfect angle to get the best shots available!

Praise & Worship with Planetshakers were ever so awesome. Indeed God was present that night, it was a totally magical feeling! Then there were sermons, I forgot what was that pastor’s name who preached to us that night. =/
Oh yea, I totally forgotten why we didn’t take a FGA USJ group photo! We definitely wouldn’t have another chance at it now! Dang.

You know, one thing I enjoy hanging out with my bunch from college, is their randomness and the courage to always try out new things. This time round, we decided to play paintball! >=DDDD

Oh it was an adrenaline pumping game alright. My heart never stopped racing till the end! Of course, great sports always come with great sacrifices. The bruises the bunch endured wasn’t pretty, in fact it was very painful too!

Oh me? None of them manage to make a scratch on me, ok lah maybe Kang Wei gave me a small one on my waist, still, I was the MVP out there, muahaha! =DDDD Imba pls.
Chun Hoe managed to get his butt whacked in the process. Don’t ask me how, it happened so fast, out of the sudden he just jumped and yelled, then he graped his butt and ran in circles. EPIC MAX!
Many thanks to the field marshall, he recorded a round of us gunning one another down. Nice!

Well, I can’t say my first semester for ACCA Fundamental levels was very smooth, academically wise. Remember at the start of the post I mentioned about my Law and Performance Management marks? Yea I studied real hard for all the papers, namely F4, F5 and F6, when finals came I thought I was prepared.
Turned out I passed F4 with flying colours! Haha, having failed all my internal tests, I emerged with a 70% in my finals. However, the same could not be said for my F5 Performance Management though. I failed. Yeap. You got that right, I failed it once, with a marginal 46%. Tax wasn’t much of a problem, I got through it, though with only mediocre marks. Well, no worries I passed F5 the 2nd attempt, on the dot. Heart attack wei. -.-”
I’ll be back with more of the 2nd semester in Episode 4, heck I’m actually typing this post at 12 midnight and I’m suppose to have a class at 8am tomorrow -.-” Haha! Ok peeps, stay tuned!
