Of solitude….

Everyone needs a time off. 

Life is like a narrow pipeline with a huge flow of information squeezing itself through in one direction towards the other end of the claustrophobic tube. Sometimes the preponderance of information and the variegated collections of events just hit us straight to the face; just like being blast by a jet stream of water from the end of a hose. 

All we can do is just to close our eyes – endure it all and put on a brave face. But there is a time when we just want it to stop. We can’t take it any longer. We are humans and we have our limits – exogenously endowed or endogenously conceived, it’s irrelevant. What matters is that once that threshold is crossed…

We snap. 

Some drag themselves to the bar and down a few cups of drinks, hoping that they can wash their memories away. Some resort to pouring out to a few friends, crying incessantly thinking that tears will somehow lighten the magnitude of the burden or make them so distraught that the problems look miniscule in comparison. Some decided to end their lives, thinking that it’ll all be ok after the jump.

Too much information being fed with such great agility, without any pause for us to catch a breath, is nothing more than a recipe of sure disaster.

That’s why we need some time off. That’s why we need some time alone.

That’s why I need solitude.

As you read this, I’ll already be on my way to Ecuador in Latin America for a month. There’ll hardly be any internet access (so facebook….you’re gonna live without me), not to mention phone access as well. It’s a perfect setting for a perfect solitary escape. And when all of this is over, I’ll yearn for the chance to stare at the mirror and finding out whether I can still recognize the character that is staring back at me.
