SMK USJ 12 2009 prefect’s camp meeting
CoffeeSnoops — By Kok Kuan on January 13, 2009 at 10:10 AMI received a call from Sarven 3 weeks ago, which was before last year Christmas. He mentioned about a prefect’s camp which will be held in school on 9th to 11th January 2009. I did not think much about it and agreed to help the school with camp. Well, my main purpose was just to meet some old friends.
We had our first meeting at Tanjung, USJ9. From my batch were only me and Pui Mun, the seniors Kunil and Kabilan, along with the form 5s this year. We discussed about the activites and things that need to be prepared for the camp. Nothing much basically as we will have another meeting after new year.
The second metting was held at Tanjung on 2nd January. This time, it was attended by the same group of people in addition to Da Wei, Bryan and Vern Chien. All details wwere discussed except the activities. The activities were discussed on the 3rd of January in Papparich, Taipan.
The main reason why only now I’m posting this is to keep the meetings a secret and to not let any participants know that we are the facilitators. Here are some pictures of the first meeting.

For starters: What in the world is my bro drinking?? @_________@
I like secret meetings! HAHA! They are fun and exciting! I’m glad the execution of the camp turned out well…I mean, at least the most of it. =)
Glad you guys could continue the tradition!
From far far away,
Jian Wei
the execution turned out well and i am proud to say that all my fascilitators did a good job but im dissapointed with the prefects of smk usj 12. i sometimes question the selection process of these prefects myself because for me personally this was a disaster and will never ever do a camp anymore. GOD BLESS PREFECTS OF SMK USJ 12 !!!!!!!!
JW: your bro is drinking Milo Ais. seems to be his favourite drink. hahahaha
Jian Wei, if you think your bro is drinking a yellow substance, that’s just the cup’s design =D
haha i pay a visit to usj 12 today oso..prefects scare to voice out now…not as playful as us last time XP!!
A moment like this has long been predicted. But now it has turned reality. I know it is hard for us “outsiders” to inflict positive change. And I’m sure it is even harder for all of us to look at the situation right now and to say: OMG, what has happened. But fairness to all, there were many that have tried to change the system. Many. But their voices unheard. Their actions to no avail. I have always been critical of the board’s progress because I truly know what it is really capable of.
And I feel that for those who have seen the best of this board, who are products of the pinnacle of this board…we owe it to help those who are still in the cyclical motions of the system. Sometimes you can see the despair in one’s eyes, trying to reform a system that doesn’t buldge.
As long there are those who still want to change the system; as long as there are still prefects and teachers who care…we should be there for them.
I believe 2010 would be the 10th anniversary of our school. (correct me if I am wrong)
Let’s make it a year to remember.
Jian Wei, your comment reminds me of an institution with a much larger scale.
all hail the prefects… =__=

Looks like y’all had fun!

Well, my 2 cents here, since we’re like the seniors and no longer the ‘prefects’ of SMK USJ 12, there have been many changes that have, and is still, leading our board to its downfall. Suffice to say, every year, a little bit of our tradition is being shipped off slowly, bit by bit.
A case in proof: What happened to the ‘first ever digital school’, I wonder? What happened to our forums, our prefect website? We were supposed to be the first prefect board ever to go digital, but know all that remains a history.
*wonders if our archives still exists.*
Then again, it could be that every generation is not as good as the previous generation. This trend I do see, even outside of school. Kids are getting more demanding, more spoilt, etc. I’m not saying our generation was good, we too have our own flaws.
I rest my case.

On a side note, isn’t that where we had our meeting as well for the previous camp?
In normal circumstances, our meetings would normally take place in Burger King. =p But I suppose since economy is bad and Kunil just came back from Australia, the craving for Mamak food would outweigh the decision to even step into Burger King.
And in response to your comments Sean, I would dare say that we are far from the true capacity of the board. However, with fairness to the current stakeholders, there has been a significant positive shift in the mindset of the school administration in terms of prefect empowerment. And I am glad that there are efforts done by Head Prefect Thomas’s administration in plugging the holes where they can, given the challenges that they face.
But being a realist and factoring the changes in the social demography of the students these days, I would say that the recovery would be slow. And the odds of it making the cut are slim. But I remain sanguine because I believe that pessimism won’t take us anywhere. Next year being the first decade anniversary of our school and our prefect board lies the perfect occasion for something momentous to happen.
If only the prefects want it….all would be possible.
JW : Im actually impressed with the boards enthusiasm and the hardwork they put in and hats off to them but im still hoping a miracle to happen for the future ones not that i look down on them but i think that they really need to change a few things starting from their mindset as a prefect. I feel bad for some who really try but most dont even bother even though there are people who want to help. I pity them.
I was drinking kecing. lolx. =P

Jian Wei, thanks a lot for that “praise”, kudos to wan shin also.
Actually, as a product of Kunil and Jian Wei’s tutelage, the difference in the current board and your’s is clearly seen, and as a traditionalist, it’s only natural that we hope to restore it to its original shape. From my point of view, it was like so easy to be stagnant and fall back, while it’s so difficult for us to bring it back into its original glory. Looking back at Jian Wei and Kunil’s time, it was as though there was so much freedom and priority which was given to the prefects, but now, just to secure a meeting even after school requires us telling the teachers just as a sign of sincerity. And regaining the trust of the teachers is also another issue which we are working hard on. Got to go for Latihan Rumah Sukan now… Will try to check back soon.
Thomas.
Thomas Kok, I’m actually glad/happy that we could have a discussion over here at coffeestops. A rare incidence but I do hope that we could share more of our views in the future. As for this issue, I have nothing to offer.
erm.. i guess i’m kinda late to “jump” into this discussion,
to be honest, we clearly know that the quality of the prefects had went down a lot,
people are coming in and out of prefect board as if it’s a “hotel”, i stay i pay when i like, i leave when i had enough..
the mindset at the 1st place of theirs were very very wrong,
they don;t understand what is being a prefect all about..
i’ve tried going down to their roll calls ( skipping class )
asking them questions, they can;t even give me a simple reply when i ask questions and try to appraoch them.. even saying yes or no seems to be very hard..
so i guess they probably dun even know what they want or dun even understand themselves therefore they’re juz working blindly in the prefect board… and they’ll juz leave when they find they couldn’t handle certain situations or when they start losing frenz..
* quite disappointed, but still not giving up until the day i retire…
Wan Shin, We can always point out the mistake/shortcomings of others. I do not think it is all wrong but instead of pointing out mistakes/shortcomings, we should always work together to build up each other. Of course it can never be done if they are unwilling to do so. Yes, I did read your comment till the end. I give you my fullest admiration for your determination to not give up till the day you retire. For the betterment of the Prefect Board, cheers!
i hope i can join u all looks like very fun
I’m actually astounded with the amount of views this post is getting!
