IMPACT Open Day 2009

IMPACT Open Day 2009. An event to kick start IMPACT (formerly known as the Youth Fellowship) for the year 2009. The event took place on the 9th of January with me “supervising” the event together with my organising committee of 4 youths whom have just finished their PMRs. Make that 3. One of them is homeschooling (and very happy in fact to dodge PMR). The theme for the night was yellow. An odd colour to find in our closets. Many people were worried that they would be “forfeited” for not coming in yellow! Actually, no forfeit was ever planned or intended. Ha ha. Ask those who came in non-yellow! We spared them!

The event started off with a warm welcome by the emcees. Speaking through the microphones were Eunice and Brian. New comers were introduced while members of the crowd were ushered to the front seats. It is somehow a trend to occupy the seats at the back. Wonder why! An opening prayer got the ball rolling for the night. After that, we had a praise and worship session lead by veteran Jon Loh. I’m sure it was a great one! I enjoyed myself after a long break from youth meetings. Perhaps the rest of the youth had the same experience too?

Later, a multimedia presentation was shown. The multimedia presentation served its purpose of recapping what we, as a youth group have done throughout the year 2008. We launched our new youth group name, IMPACT at the end of the video too. You can view the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EyfKlHktTU. Our IMPACT coordinator went up to the front later to give a speech. The prize for the name competition was also given out during the speech. Cell group Ohana took home RM 150 cash!

What! Another video? Yes, we had another video. It was our IMPACT Camp 2009 promo video! The camp will be held in MBS Rawang from the 19th to the 22nd of March 2009! Funny as he might be, he definitely made an impact with the issues concerned. With that done, it was time to hear from uncle GK Khoo! Heh, I got to know the existence of the three musketeers in church!

Awards, awards. Everybody likes to receive something but unfortunately there weren’t enough to go around. For the youths who have been writing notes consistently, your attentiveness has not gone unrewarded! Forty out of eighty or so youths were chosen to receive the award. Now, that’s an increase of fifteen (15) awards from last year’s twenty five (25) awards. Surprisingly, the award ceremony elapsed way quicker than I have anticipated. I think it was necessary to keep track of time though.

Finally the climax of the event! To welcome the form 1s to our youth group, we had something special up for them! The emcees called out the form 1s one by one to the stage in front, although some of them needed major coaxing =D. Joining them in the front were all members of the leadership team as well as assistants and cell group leaders. Li Teng took the stage and taught us the “Chicken Dance”. The music went on and everyone danced to the music! I have to say that it was the best thing on the agenda that night other than the refreshments later. The event came to a close with the closing prayer by uncle Stephen.
