Shanghai Day 9

My days in Shanghai were quickly coming to an end. Before I knew it, it was already my ninth day there. Day nine was a rather relaxing day as most of the buying was done the day before. As for me, I had one final task – to buy souvenirs for my friends! We returned to the Yu Gardens to do our last minute “shopping”. We scouted around for a stall that carves name stamps for the most reasonable price. Keep on hoping! I won’t divulge the cost of each name stamp! Especially to family/friends whom I have given the name stamps too! We walked along the outskirts of the Yu Gardens in contrast to our previous visit to have a look at other stalls.

A little input from Eugene. Eugene dreamed that we would purchase the name stamps from a stall operated by a mother and daughter. Even the price of each name stamps was mentioned in his dream. Also, it seems that his dreams do come true. The price we paid for each name stamps were accurate. However, it was a man whom operated the stall. As a measure to attract customers, these people would promise a minimal time of 5 minutes to complete a name stamp. Since we had about 19 pieces to order, I was expecting them to be done in a maximum of 2 hours. The man was not able to deliver the name stamps on time. We went for lunch.

I was looking forward to having a pork burger in China. China, the land of pork would definitely have pork burgers sold at their Mc Donalds outlets, right? Wrong! It seems that they don’t sell them! Anyhow, we still had lunch at Mc Donalds. Yeah, I know I’m suppose to boycott Mc Donalds but what the heck! They had yam pie! It was delicious! By the way, you would be 100% sure that they are using chicken meat when they serve you chicken burger. The texture and shape is there! (Unlike you know where). Mc Donalds in China has no tax. Maybe its because tax is already included in the prices. Even so, it is still cheaper that in Malaysia.

After lunch in Mc Donalds, we went back to he stall to collect our name stamps. The man was still not done with our name stamps! Even more pathetic, the man had given stamps to his colleague (in another stall) to help carve them. 5 minutes per piece? Bah. We waited at the stall till he was done with every single one of them. Then there was another issue. Instead of boxing the stamps, (which is a norm) the man just encased the stamps into small plastic packets. He then offered to sell us the box for a sum of money. I guess that he wanted to make up for the marginal profits of the stamps. We declined his offer. Looked around for the boxes and ended up in a stall operated by a mother and daughter! All I can say that Eugene’s dream was quite accurate!

As for our last night in Shanghai, Eugene’s mother brought us to 小南国 (xiao nan guo). It’s located on the Pudong side of The Bund, in the Super Brand Mall and along 陆家嘴 (lu jia zui). 陆家嘴 is a famous road because many of Shanghai’s skyscrapers are located along it. The restaurant was located on the upper floors of the building – we could enjoy the night view of The Bund. Food was great. We had our share of taking pictures as well. I didn’t bother taking pictures of the night view as I was shooting behind glass. Bernard however got some nice shots.

We had dessert in Häagen-Dazs. What a way to start and end my holiday in Shanghai!

Thanks for reminding me of them!
Now maybe the holiday wasn’t that good after all! xD
McDonald’s at China is now halal.
that’s why the french fries don’t taste as good as it used to be with beef tallow =(
but KFC still have pork i think
yeechinn´s last blog post was Hair
LOL! well, I could make up for it by having roasted turkey for xmas! HAHA
Yee Chinn, McDonald’s in China halal? For real? I think the French Fries are fine to me. Meh, I should have patronized KFC then instead.
Eugene, Pork please! xD
i think so. the last time i was in china i was desperate to eat McDonald’s only to be disappointed.
the french fries used to be so nice years ago, very much nicer than what we have here.
so now i think KFC fries at China is better than McD there
Nvr eat pork burger ah ? I ate there when I was in Beijing.
J´s last blog post was TripLe Kill
Yeechinn, perhaps they have reduced the amount of “ingredients”, ie. salt as the people of Shanghai are more health conscious nowadays. Maybe that’s the reason why pork burgers are off the shelf too!
J, Maybe they only still have it in Beijing. In Shanghai, they don’t sell them anymore it seems =d.
Beijing also no pork burger already lah! =(
ya, probably cos they have made McD’s halal. BOO!
I think it’s more of a way to get more money. lacking of pork or beef tallow means more customers of different religions.
LT, time to go to Japan!
Yeechinn, I agree with you. The Chinese are very money minded. So yeah!
McDs doesn’t have a pork burger in its main menu. Or at least not in asia. There is a small burger that they sell which is pork. I am sure they do have it in mainland china too. And they do have it on special ocassions too. Like the local version of “Prosperity Burger” here in HK.

IvanK, d’oh. I’ll have to visit China again when its special occasions are around the corner. Hmm, that has to be the Chinese New Year! D’oh!
