Shanghai Day 10

Alas, my holiday in China was coming to an end. Did my packing the night before. My luggage bag was at 14.8kg – my flight ticket only allows me a maximum of 15kg. A relieve definitely. Woke up at 5 AM still in a trance. Have been deprived of sleep the past few days. Bernard and I prepared ourselves and did some last minute packing (toiletries, etc). We had our last breakfast at the breakfast table. We had nice bread and strawberries. I’m missing them right now! You don’t have to worry about what you eat in his house as everything (mostly) is certified by the “health minister”. We reached the bus station at 7.15 AM. A good hour before our bus was due to leave. Guess what we did to kill time? We chilled out in KFC without ordering anything!

Scanned our bags with the X-ray machine before entering the waiting hall. The authorities or rather staff are quite relaxed on this rule though. They only checked my luggage bag and not my backpack. Soon, it was time to leave for Hang Zhou. We bid Eugene a temporal farewell and off we went! The journey to the airport took about 3 hours. We only reached at 11.30 AM. Hang Zhou is down south of Shanghai. I was expecting it to be much warmer. However, this was not the case. Nearing Hang Zhou, the only thing we could see was white wash (our visibility was obscured by thick fog). It was as though as snow was ready to fall anytime! Of course it didn’t happen. I would’ve stayed an extra night in China!

I would say that smoking is a national “hobby” in China. Practically every male smokes. As for the ladies, I am not too sure. Perhaps those in the upper class of society does it. China seems to be very lenient on its non-smoking laws. 20 yuan for smoking in a non-smoking area? I’m sure many people can afford that!

Bernard and I had Mc Donalds for lunch again. Guess what? The sales attendant did not know simple English! You can’t blame me for demanding too much especially when we were in an airport! Thank God for pictures that we can point at.

The weather was pretty bad for flights. Many flights were delayed while a few were canceled. We might have been stranded in China! Fortunately, the weather cleared up during lunch. Flights were resumed as normal. Even so, flights were still delayed a couple of minutes. Go figure! We checked-in without any complications and then proceeded to the departure hall. Looks like the flight home was full! I saw someone who looked like my high school teacher but I couldn’t ascertain. She didn’t teach me during my years there either.

Look at how foggy the runway is!

This was the closest I have ever got to experience snow! Snowflakes on the outside of the aircraft window! They melted as soon as we entered Malaysian skies.

This mushroom cloud reminds me of the atomic bomb. We landed at 7.30 PM. After a long and tiring journey! Malaysia greeted us with its warm air the moment we exited the plane. I spent a total of RMB 1 241.60 during my stay in Shanghai, China. It was a good experience for me! Thanks to Eugene and family for hosting us over there!
