Hello from UK

Yao Siang

Hello to people back in Malaysia. I hope you people are all good and fine. I am very well over here in the UK. Time flies. It has been almost a month since I left Malaysia for study. Sorry for the lack of updates as I was busy with classes and trying to get used to the daily routine.

Thank you to my dearest friends who went all the way to KLIA on the 27th of September 2008 to send me off to UK. You guys are great. Also, thank you for the gift. I think it is really useful for me although I have not used it yet. Don’t worry, I will remember all of you! =)

I travelled to Newcastle alone and the journey was smooth. Luckily, the transit at Dubai airport was short, not more than 2.5 hours. Dubai airport was very crowded with people sleeping along walk ways. Maybe the reason behind this was I reached Dubai early in the morning. Being alone at that time, I was worried about safety so I did not take any pictures. Apologies.

I reached Newcastle in the afternoon after 6.75 + 2 + 7.75 hours of flights from Malaysia. I stepped down the plane with the feeling of relieved after so long in the plane. I went through the immigration and custom smoothly without much questions asked. The queue was long and priority was given to European Union (EU) visitors. Overall, the airport was not huge. I bought a chocolate cake and a bottle of Sprite in the cafe. The 500ml Sprite costs 99p. (£1 = 100p)

After that, I took taxi to my accommodation which was around 15 minutes from the airport. It costs £20.40 in total. The taxi driver was kind enough to help me carry the 30kg luggage up and down the car. Next, I registered in the reception and got into my room. View from my room window as below.

I am happy with the size of my room. There is a big table as well as a washbasin. Toilet is shared among 6 people on the same floor. Other than that, there is also ethernet box as well as Wi-Fi network coverage. Despite that, I did not get to access to the Internet on the first day because I did not have the password for my student account. It was required for the Virtual Private Network (VPN) configuration.

The accommodation is 15 minutes bus ride away from the city. My university is located in the city so I need to take bus every day. I asked the person-in-charge at the reception for direction to the bus stop and he was very kind in helping me.

I only looked around the accommodation on the first day. It is equipped with facilities such as TV room, laundry, table tenis, pool, bar and servery area. Overall it is a nice place to stay. =)

I will stop here for this post. In the next post, there will be pictures of my University and the city. Stay tune! xD
