Happy Birthday Papa!

Unlike me, my dad is a man of few words.

He speaks only when he has to speak, thus shunning nonsensical talks, or fruitless engagement.

For reasons and constrains beyond his own, my dad didn’t start his life on a good footing. Born into a poor family, he could only further his education only as far as his family could afford. He lost his father at a tender age……

Anyone who undergone such convolution of unpleasant events, had his or her live at the tip of a sword. It could have gone either way: Down and astray into the darkness portion of life; or up into the shinning beacon of the tomorrows.

Thankfully, my father was in the latter.

Poor as he may be, like many others before him, he worked hard. With toil and sweat he climbed up the corporate ladder. With his hard work, he raised a comfortable and loving family.

Since I am now in a far far away land. Physically separated from my family…at least only for a while, it wouldn’t be possible for me to be present to witness him blowing the candles on his cake. In such a situation, words are all I have.

No. I won’t dedicated a poem to you. I won’t do an endless rendition of praises for you. I will just tell you what I have always wanted to tell you:

A father knows that he is a success when he looks into the eyes of his children and find them better off than he is now. Based on that measurement, you can rest assure…..irrespective of your distant past, or whatever that might transpire tomorrow….

You are one hell of a success.
