Taylor’s A Levels Prom Night

Events — By on June 20, 2008 at 12:00 AM

The Taylor’s A Levels Prom Night was held at Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on the 13th of June 2008. The event started at 7.00 pm and ended around 12.00 am. Being one of the CAL students in Taylor’s, this is our last time to meet each other before we leave the college.

The entry ticket was RM 130 per person. Some of them in my class complained that it was too expensive and the others said it was going to be boring. So in the end, 10 of us from my class booked a table for ourselves and it costs RM 1,300.00 in total (no discount T_T). Anyway, for those that did not go and stayed at home doing nothing, I think you just wasted your time.

On that day, it was my first time driving down to Kuala Lumpur with no one but only me alone in the car. To make the situation worse, I DON’T KNOW the routes in KL. Yea, Not At All. Come on, the only time that I go to KL is during PC Fair, and usually I am not the driver. Therefore, that explained that I had not been to Renaissance Hotel before. The only thing that I had was the Nokia N95 GPS which is equipped with Garmin Mobile XT software. So, did it lead me to the hotel?

So yea, you might think that I really trusted the Nokia N95 and hoped that it will guide me there safely without getting lost. Actually that was my original plan, but on that day I found out that 1 of my friends will be driving from Subang Jaya to Renaissance. So, to play safe, I decided to drive my own car with his car in front of me. Not knowing that he was not sure of the routes, he made a wrong turn somewhere and I ended up leading him to the hotel with the help of my GPS! I’m so proud to own the Nokia N95 now. xD Too bad the new iPhone 3G does not support turn-by-turn voice navigation as claimed by Gizmodo, although I have a feeling it is not true. (Hope so, hint: TomTom)

Back to topic, I reached the hotel at 7.xx pm, not too late but most of my classmates arrived earlier than me. There were many humans in front of the ballroom. I registered myself at the counter. Guess who I met there? Khye Theng! Yea, I think she was there as a member of the A Levels Student Council. Then, I went into the ballroom with my friends and started taking pictures. The lighting was pretty bad in the ballroom. I was equipped with the Canon EOS 400D with battery grip, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer lens and the Canon 580EX II Speedlite flash. That was my first time handling the camera with flash unit (means n00b la!). After a few test shots, I found the settings suggested by Christopher Ho gave the best image. Thank you, Chris!

Next, there were speeches by the Program Director (reminds me of secondary school) and the dinner was served. (Shark fin soup, abalone, fish, chicken and some other food) At the same time, there were also stage performances (the only thing I watched was the strip show) but most of us did not bother watching them at all. We were busy talking to each other and helping each other to take photos to preserve the memory. My friends and I left the hall after they elected the Prom King and Prom Queen. We continued to take photos outside the hall until 12 am. After that, I drove home with the help of the GPS again. The end.

Special thanks to Han Yang and Eng Joe for helping me to take photos on that day.
