Ms Syeela’s Wedding!

Events — By on March 9, 2008 at 12:01 AM

When I first came to International Education Center (INTEC) UiTM, I thread the passage of time with great trepidation. But all my skepticism and fears were buried to rest when I entered a class replete of great people and yes…..great teachers as well. One of the teachers, Ms Syeela, invited her students to her wedding event yesterday! Her twin got married last year!

The wedding was held at the Taman Seri Islam Selangor in Shah Alam.

The bride and bridegroom on the ‘pelamin’. We have two small and young sentry guards!

The guest were greeted with an enthusiastic blast of kompangs. Truth be told, I really like kompang rehersals. The sound of coherence that resonates from the thumpings on the kompang is really music to the ears! And it’s an omnipresent thing in Malay wedddings and offical functions too!

A group of males of all ages performing a short presentation with the kompangs!

As I was approaching the kompang group, I was wondering from which angle I should shoot. I really wanted to capture the enthusiasm that resonates from this people. Took about 9 shots, most of them were really bad, but lady luck was on my side! I got this shot:

Abang Iz (Ms Deela’s husband) discussing something with Ms Deela (The bride’s twin sister).

Ms Deela on the phone receiving a call from Abang Iz on the arrival of his family.

As I was sitting with my friends, I recevied a nudge from my right to look behind me. Here’s what I saw:

Photobucket

Ms Farrah! My former lecturer who taught me Writing and Composition, officemates and great friends of Ms Deela and Syeela. What an entrance Ms Farrah! And yeah….the posing is…..ahherm!

I was rather sceptical and afraid of approaching the front stage as I was afraid to obstruct any view from the audience. But after kind invitation from the family members….haha! I went without hesitation!

Photobucket

The bride and bridegroom! May you have a solid wedding that will last forever!

Photobucket

Ms Syeela happily laughing away! Laugher is the best medicine. May this be the cure that will sweep all the wedding stress that she experienced a few days before!

Photobucket

The ‘sentry guard’!! Innocent face!

Family members approaching the newly weds to give their blessings!

They will receive a ‘bunga telur’ each! It’s a usual Malay gift in their weddings.

No wedding is every complete without a wedding cake and of course the standard practice whereby the bride and the bride groom will feed their souldmate with a small piece of the wedding cake!

The wedding cake! Goodness, it smells so nice!

Nice shots with the IXUS! xD

  • Nicholas says:

    bravo indeed! ixus 850IS w00t!

  • Liz says:

IS that all the comments there is? Nice shot with the ixus 8501S? *shakes head*

Well, Jian Wei, I personally think one of your shot is off. The caption reads “Ms Syeela happily laughing” and the shot is so blur! The only thing you can see clearly is the pink flowers.

Nevertheless, Ms. Syeela looks absolutely beautiful. And it is not due to the Ixus

  • Christopher says:

Dear Liz, I believe the shot was meant to be taken that way. But I shall leave it to Jian Wei to explain himself. And by mentioning nice shots with the IXUS, I am implying that even a compact camera is able to take decent pictures. Yes, I would say that the photographer is the one that creates nice pictures, not the camera. Of course, Ms. Syeela looks good too. Thank you for your sincere comment! =]

  • Jian Wei says:

It was intentionally done that way.

The reason I focussed on the flowers instead of the bride is to depict the surroundings around it and I tried to capture the moment when the bride is smiling/laughing so that I can have her in the background, capturing the mood of the event contemporaneously.

Ms Syeela is pretty, no doubt. But without any photography skills (I am not implying that I have a lot of it), any perfect picture will turn out…well…crap. But do rest assure that in no way are we downplaying the beauty of the bride.

And yes, comments regarding the IXUS, they are juxtaposing a compact camera with a DSLR which was quite prominent in presence on the wedding day.

  • Liz says:

*shrug* I don’t have any talents, nor much knowledge about cameras, to be frank. From the perspective of an ordinary reader, it would have been much better if the picture had been just a shade clearer. After all, to the undiscerning eye (which is to say, plenty of ordinary readers don’t take lessons in photography) the picture has been downplayed. I would say that minus your captions, the only thing I will notice is “Wow, nice flowers and why is there a quarter of a head in the picture?”

Do excuse the ignorant people in the world of photography please.

Oh. I liked the next picture though. The one with the flower girl? It is very nicely taken. That I give you credit for. And the portrait of Ms. Syeela was nicely done to. It is great how she is brought to focus while the rest seems to somehow… fade into the background. Is that due to the camera or photoshop? (Yet again, forgive the ignorant photography niovice)

And the couple didn’t sit on a PELAMPIN for God’s sake. They sat on a PELAMIN. And you misspelled Ms. Syeela’s and Ms. Farrah’s name in your post too…

And oh, upload the pictures on Facebook please. Don’t hog them… haha. You took so many the other day (and looked hilarious trying to take the pictures of the ‘kompang’ escorts and the flower girl), it’s not fair to not share it with us.

Austin creed: Share the wealth! Live up to the principle you created please.

Have a nice day. I think I’ve displayed my ignorance enough. Haha

And thanks to Christopher for the kind ‘Thanks for sincere comment” line. Its a rarity to have someone thank another person for a comment he doesn’t agree with. Very unique of you. =)

  • Christopher says:

Dear Liz, you do have a point there – Jian Wei has learned something today on photography and also captioning the photos properly. The blur effect was done with photoshop although the camera is able to do it independently. A DSLR could easily give that effect as it allows full manual control.

PELAMPIN – Hillarious =] Thanks for the laugh.

Liz, that should be the way debates are carried out. We don’t need to lose our temper or project harsh words just to get our point across or to disagree with one another. We must always show gratitude as we too can learn something from the person disagreeing with us. Have a nice day. Thanks for the mini-discussion. =] Looking forward for another session!

  • Jian Wei says:

I thought it was SPREAD THE WEALTH??

“It’s a rarity to have someone thank another person for a comment he doesn’t agree with.” Haish..where have you been? HEHE! JJK! Anyway, welcome to Our Coffeestops! Do drop by if you find our “acerbic” way of accepting criticisms rather enlightening…do drop by more often yeah??

Anyway, your criticisms have been noted. It shows the level of my BM now…in the dumpsters.

And yeah…just for your benefit: Thanks for the sincere comments!

    See you tmr Liz!

  • Christopher says:

My level of BM is around there too Jian Wei!

  • Kok Kuan says:

Nampaknya terdapat sedikit …………. (debate) di sini. How to say debate in Malay ar? Perbahasan?..I can see my Malays level is drowning..lol

Anyway, different people have diff thought…Every comments are good:)

  • Liz says:

haha. Yea, Kok Kuan, it’s perbahasan. haha. My BM went down the drain too, but luckily still enough remains for me to discern pelampin and pelamin… hehe. I guess I can thank HEP and their insistence on BM proposals and paperworks for that.

What’s wrong with debates? =P haha. I thrive on them. Life is too boring if I am supposed to be obedient and subservient 24/7. There’s nothing to lose with challenging another perspective once in a while, though I steer clear of politics, since I treasure my chance to study abroad…

Hehe. Had fun in this ‘mini-debate’. Have a nice day everyone.

~Jian Wei, before I forget, may I have your mum’s num please? A little bird told me that your mom will persuade you to donate blood! Muahaha. That’ll be great for my project! =P

  • Nadeela says:

Hi guys!! i am definitely one of those ignorant few (or many) on the beauty af photography. But I must say, waht breathtaking pictures you have taken! You have definitely captured the moment well. A job well done on the pix of the kompang boys, as well as me of course! Hehehe… But yes, the bride was commemorated exquisitely and her beauty that day was enhanced by your skills and talent handling your IXUS. Well done, again…

As for your liitle ‘debate’ here, I am just amused! Keep it coming guys! I love it htat you guys managed to critisize/compliment/comment/agree/disagree/etc in a sensitive yet banterlike manner. Do note that this portrays our upbringing…

One more comment before I post this up……. My BM is not going down the drain, it IS there… LOL. I’ve survived thus far purely by luck.

Anyway, lurve those pix, Jian Wei!!

And please donate blood. Humanity depends on your contribution. (AAP for you. Hahaha!)

  • Christopher says:

    Dear Nadeela,
We will make it a point that Ang Jian Wei donates blood.
We will take photographic/video evidence of it too. =]

  • penny_aries says:

I missed the wedding since I went back to my hometown. Seems that a lot of fun was going on that day. Nice pic. =)

I know this is out of topic and unrelated to this post. But, I still want to say: Jian Wei, remember to donate blood. Me and Liz will wait for you at Dewan Beringin on Monday. It’s for your own good. XD

  • Liz says:

WOW! Supporters! *Big grin* I have many supporters to get Jian Wei to donate blood.

He agreed already… Geez’, I almost wish Calculus class is canceled so that I can go take pictures… Ah Jian Wei, wait til’ lunch time to donate! Then I’ll forward the picture either to you, or Christopher to post yea? =P

MS. Deela, I’m donating too, I want AAP too… hahahaha.

    Have a great day everyone!
