The 9th Day Of Chinese New Year (CNY)

At the night on Valentine day, we can listen fireworks around our neighbourhood and some people was thinking what are they celebrating? Is it a surprise to their beloved or to celebrate the end of Valentine Day 2008? Well everyone, they were celebrating the coming of 9th day of CNY.

People who are celebrate this special day are Hokkien and Teo Chews chinese only. All Hokkien and Teo Chews will come out at the midnight of the 8th day of CNY to have a praying ceremony for the Jade Emperor of Heaven (天公）. For Hokkiens, they usually will offer thanks giving prayers to the Emperor of Heaven. Offerings will include sugarcane as it was the sugarcane that had protected the Hokkiens from injured during a war.

I dont know is the principle of SEGi College is a hokkien or not, but there were a Lion Dance performance today. The performance suppose to start at 9am, so most of the student came out from the class to wait for that. Unfortunately, the lion dance crew came at 9.30am, after set up everything, the show officially start at 10am.

The Set Up

When is drum start to roll, everyone were exited and went out to see. However the Lion did not do the performance and went in the campus instead. And guess what, the lion went in to the lift and it went to the second and fifth floor which is the main office and the lecturer’s room. I guess this is to bring some furtune (ong) to the campus. After quite some time atlast, the lion is dancing in front of us.

I was the first people to catch the orange from the Lion (hehe). I didn realized that the lion going throw the orange to my direction at first as i am focusing on my hp camera. While the orange fly’s halfway, my hand suddenly automatically raise up a bit and it landed just nice, lucky me:)
