Nanyang Technology University – Models of United Nations (Last Day)

Events — By on February 26, 2008 at 12:00 AM

Finally it was the last day! I have to be honest though that I wasn’t really looking forward to it. I was just beginning the enjoy the hype of the event, soaking myself into the pressure and politics that engulfed the IMF council. But alas, everything nice has to come to an end.

Anyway, as a whole, the last day is pretty anti-climax though. But thanks to a few small scenes, it wasn’t all that boring for me. Delegates are rushing here and there to offer compromises so that a ‘working paper’ (final decision) could be obtained. Well, all I can say is: Time had its own ways to pressure people.

The Zimbabwe delegate continued with her “stuborn and recalcitrant” role-playing, ticking several delegates off! In fact, there was actually one brief moment when delegates stood, one after another, lambasting (“karateing”, “kick assing”, “meng-hentaming”, “ta-pau-ing” (pick one)) the Zimbabwe delegate for her stance. Well, it was reached an uncontrolable point where the chair had to suspend the meeting just to cool the delegates down!

Field day for the press, heh?

Chairperson trying to settle the dispute while the Brazilian delegate going into the “no-no-no, that’s-not-what-I-meant” hand gestures. Zimbabwe delegate was the smartest: In times of trouble, RUN! (She was quiet all the way through…smart leh!) The Brazilian delegate took it to the next level: In times of trouble, SMILE!

Delegates trying to iron out issues to that they can get the final draft ready.

When the final draft was being voted on, ALL THE PRESS HAD TO LEAVE! What the hell man! I had to leave! So I was enjoying around half an hour of bio-degradation: Sitting, walking, dancing aimlessly. I even tried sleeping….but what was quickly woken up! Scared mah! Got many camera man around!

Well, I had to skip the closing ceremony in order to make it back in time. So, it’s nights out pretty soon!

I heard there’s rumours that NUS is organising another one in June this year….maybe I’ll check it out!

But I would really love to recommend this event to all of you readers! Try it! You might never know….bump into a girl?
