INTEC (Part 1) - Library

Jian Wei

The first month of the year 2008 is coming to an end! And soon enough SPM results for the 2007 batch will be released. I reckon a whole lot of them will get themselves posted in INTEC (International Education Center), which is a branch of UiTM, located in Section 17, Shah Alam, Selangor.

I won’t get into the details of INTEC as one can just visit ReCOM. It has an extensive amount of information that can help any ‘blur case’ scholars. Topics ranging from food, accomodation, types of courses etc. But in line with this site’s aim to provide a personalised view on education, I will be doing some posts that will be accompanied with photos on INTEC to help those who which to have some pictorial knowledge on INTEC. (Especially for those out-station students who have NEVER heard of INTEC)

So, to begin with, let’s start with the main landmark of INTEC: THE LIBRARY. The next intake of scholars will be DAMN LUCKY. The newly launched library is certainly a pride of INTEC. Standing tall with 4 floors (including ground floor), the library is really a figure of modernity in the midst of the school-like buildings in this campus. It is FULLY air-conditioned (IT IS VERY COLD! ONE MUST DEFINITELY BRING A SWEATER/JACKET IN IF ONE WANTS TO STAY THERE LONG ENOUGH). I heard that in March 2008, this library will be equiped with wireless internet connection. Hurray from us scholars!

The INTEC library.

It really looks modern if one juxtapose it with the surrounding buildings.

That’s the main entrance. (Notice the people coming out.)

I guess the picture is self-explanatory right? It’s the office hours of the library. Yes…we can stay here till night!

Photobucket

This is what it looks like when one enters the main entrance.

Now let’s go to the left….

Photobucket

We have our own ART GALLERY! The art works are produced by the Education faculty of UiTM. They are quite nice! Very aesthetic!

Notice the guy who is sitting right at the end there? There are chairs placed here so that one can spend their time reading…OR…staring at the pics! That’s why some will call this the GALERI TERMENUNG.

Photobucket

We have many art works here. Do not underestimate its presence…sometimes after a heck of a day, a nice break will be vital. This place accomodates that need.

Photobucket

Can you see the door there? It’s connected to the ‘24 hour section’. There’s a section in this library that is open 24 hours! Don’t worry…if you’re thinking of doing something mischeivious, just to let you know: with the number of CCTVs in that room, no plans will pull through.

Photobucket

We have lots of tables and chairs! Enough to accomodate everyone.

Photobucket

This is a personal favourite place of mine….Tables and chairs with a nice view of INTEC. It’s really a peaceful place to do one’s work.

Photobucket

Here’s where I usually sit!

There’s also a section where they have the latest magazines. Example: The Economist, Times, Newsweek, even chess magazines!

Many people claim that the books here in INTEC is much of quality. I think that’s really CRAP. INTEC Libary has many great books. In fact, some of the best-sellers are here in INTEC. Hard cover too! But yes, nonetheless, I can’t deny that there’s not many to go around for everybody. But nonetheless, I think we must really give them time. Stocking up a library isn’t an easy thing to do. The prices of books aren’t exactly very cheap and to be able to provide many best-seller books with hard cover version is already something to be proud of. Even Sunway University College’s (SyUC) library took years to have the number of books it has today. And not to mention SyUC is a private college. What more a public one?

In this new library, the number of book racks have also increased. There are book racks that’s still empty. But since this library is just newly opened….nearing one month, I am sure by the time the new intake of students are here, they will be exposed to a larger variety of books!

Photobucket

Shelves waiting to be filled!

So that’s all for now! I hope this first post on INTEC will be a great help to those who really want help.

So how’s INTEC?

Well, truth be told I kinda like it here! HAHA! Besides, in INTEC, opportunities are present to those who seek for it!

  7. Great to see that INTEC now has a fantastic library.

On filling up the books on library, perhaps one of you can bring this suggestion to INTEC. Before any batch of students leave INTEC, there would be a book donation drive to encourage students to donate their books to INTEC library. That’s a typical way of many US Universities increasing their stock in library.

It might not be new book, but that would increase the amount of books that students would have.

I left most of the books that I own in Cornell International Living Center’s library when I left Cornell.
